Common Natural Remedies For Stress

The first thing any physician says is “you need to reduce the stress in your life”. Well, when you quit laughing and ask how he proposes you do such a thing, he normally comes off with some preset answers such as, time management, yoga, figure out what is causing the most stress in your life and get rid of it. Yeah, ok. Like that is really an option. When your spouse or a sick child is causing the stress, you cannot simply “get rid of it”. If our schedules are so insane that we cannot find ten minutes to relax, when are we supposed to figure out this magical time management chart or go to a yoga class?

There are things however, that can be done that falls into the category of natural remedies are things such as changing your diet, or at the very least adjusting it to provide more of the essentials your body needs and less junk food eaten on the run or on the road. Consuming more fruits, vegetables and foods containing whole-grains can actually help regulate your body’s natural systems and give you more of the vitamins and minerals that you need to have.

Everyone knows that consuming alcohol and nicotine (smoking cigarettes) can have negative impacts on the body, but most do not realize that one of the ways they have those negative impacts is by over stimulating the adrenal glands, which can cause headaches. Caffeine increases these negative effects and can actually increase stress rather than help to relieve it.

It is suggested that instead of these chemicals, you can use Siberian ginseng, which actually helps to improve the central nervous system and decreases stress. Lemon balm tea is a natural relaxant, where caffeine is a stimulant. Using a combination of daily vitamins can help to boost the immune system, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Ginkgo Biloba and Selenium. Each of these antioxidants help clean out your body of excessive sludge that can slow you down and pull your body’s immune system down.

Sometimes, a relaxing, warm bath with a little aromatherapy oils in the water can have wonderful results. Uncertain if it is truly the oils in the water or just the quiet, relaxing time without anyone or anything bothering you is the real advantage is an argument for someone else to have. For now, let us just say that a warm or medium hot bath will definitely relax muscles and give you time to unwind. Adding soothing oils such as tangerine, lavender, peppermint, chamomile or rose sure as heck could not hurt any – and they do smell good when added to a very warm or medium hot bath.

All of the experts will tell you that exercise is also a great way to reduce stress. Before you begin any diet or exercise program, especially if you are experiencing physical symptoms related to stress, see your health care professional to make sure you are doing the correct exercises in the proper format and time frame. The last thing you need to do is add yet another thing to your already over stuffed schedule, especially if you are doing the wrong thing or something that will cause additional harm to a physical condition you already have.
