What Can You Do To Reduce The Stress In Your Life?
The reality is time management sucks! If you are not used to budgeting
your time or making realistic schedules for what needs to be
accomplished on a daily or weekly basis, getting into the habit of doing
so is going to take a little bit of time. However, managing your time is
one of the first things and probably best things you can do to instantly
reduce the amount of stress in your daily life.
Certain things must be done everyday. Those should go into the list
under “must do’s” – these include things like getting yourself ready for
work or school, running the kids to the doctors or daycare, making sure
dinner is on the table at a reasonable hour, etc. Other things that have
to be done are laundry, straightening up the house and making sure that
specific items that are necessary get done on time. These may include
extra-curricular activities for the children, going to the grocery store
and paying bills. Make two lists, one will be the “must do’s” and the
other can be a “want to get done” list. Then write beside each item how
much time is required for each task. Did you just realize that there are
not enough hours in the day? Then you need to cut the list. Just make
sure that somewhere in there you do something that you did not think
about with the first schedule – make 30 minutes per day, that is just
for you. Whether that is to relax, take a hot bath, read a book or just
sit in a quiet room and unwind. Those 30 minutes per day are yours.
During those 30 minutes, maybe you want to take up yoga or meditation.
Those are non-physically invasive things that you can do that will help
you relax and ensure that you have a specific amount of time for
yourself everyday to rejuvenate and get prepared for whatever else you
need to do. It can also be scheduled for a time when everyone else is in
bed – and you have a guaranteed 30 undisturbed minutes to calm your mind
and relax your body. Preparing your mind and body in these manners prior
to going to bed at night, will help you get a good, restful nights
sleep. You will be amazed at how much better tomorrow will feel when you
get a good and healthy night of sleep.
You may be saying some things under your breath about now, wondering how
you are supposed to squeeze another 30 minutes into your day. You
cannot. There is only so much time in any given day. What you must do,
regardless of who you are, how many things are on your schedule and how
many people are counting on you, is to take care of you first. If you
fall apart, get sick or have an emotional meltdown because the stress is
so overwhelming you can no longer think, function or concentrate, what
good are you to any of those people? What good are you to yourself in
that condition?
You must re-learn, or finally learn how to put your physical and
emotional needs first. This is not wishful thinking. It is a critical
step in the beginning of learning to reduce the stress levels in your
life.
